Modern printing technology is an exciting phenomenon, but the
down side is that as the technology
improves, so costs tend
to march upwards.
So you squeeze your suppliers’ margins
and cut corners with refilled ink cartridges.
Your financial director is pleased, suppliers are
happy just to keep your business – but have you really improved your situation?
Print solutions company Compujet argue
that you haven’t, for costs tend to move sideways
in unexpected ways. Buying refilled print
cartridges, for example, might save on consumables’
spend, but can also increase maintenance
costs and down time.
Compujet’s cost containment solutions
involve print cost audits and outsourced print
management. The firm is a specialist printing
solutions company and an HP select partner.
Says director Bruce Bradford, “Most
dealers just buy printers from OEMs and then
resell them to customers. We do things differently
– we analyse a company’s printing
requirements and provide a managed solution
that includes providing the right equipment,
maintenance and consumables.
“Before we suggest any strategy, we do a
print audit of equipment and expenditure, and
from there present a strategy of how to save
money. However, a print strategy that is not
properly implemented and managed will soon
be ineffective. This is where Compujet really
comes into its own, with our fully managed
printing solutions.”
Compujet’s full printing solution
brings all facets of servicing the corporate
print process under one
umbrella. Traditionally, different dealers have
supplied different facets of the customers’
print environment, such as maintenance, consumables,
printers and finance. This has led to
opposing print strategies and higher printing
expenses.
Compujet has combined all of these to
benefit the client in terms of both expertise
and cost. As Bradford explains, “What often
happens with corporates is that their printing
equipment grows organically. No account is
taken of the cost of conflicting or ageing technology,
consumables, numbers of users,
inventory shrinkage or staff training.
“Clients also need to weigh up the benefits
of multi-functional devices (which can
print, copy, fax, scan, e-mail etc) against the
expense of costly photocopier contracts. We
take care of all of that for them.”
Compujet initiated its innovative solution
with a major international corporation in 2001
– a deal which won it the HP Printer Dealer of
the Year Award. This “cents-per-page solution”
involves outsourcing printer requirements.
As Bradford explains, “The value of printing
does not lie in the value of the printer, but
in the information on the printed page. We
take on the responsibility of print costs for the
company, which saves them money and
makes them more efficient so that they can concentrate on the value they put on the
printed page.”
Compujet can provide a comprehensive
print monitoring service. As Bradford relates,
“We can monitor the status of all printers live
on the network, so that we can send someone
onto site to replace toner or paper before they
are finished. This cuts down dramatically on
down time – an aspect that people can’t usually
put a number to.”
HP provides a strong backbone for the
company, as Bradford points out: “Everything
we do falls back on HP, so customer risk is
very low. We merely use the tools they have
available, such as offshore finance, to develop
a strategy – but we’ve been around for ten
years ourselves.”
Bradford is pleased with the partnership.
“HP has a good understanding of what
Compujet is trying to achieve in the corporate
environment. We are the only dealer actively
promoting printing management solutions and
they support this.”
So next time your financial director pressures
you to cut down on printing costs and
improve efficiencies – think of Compujet.
